Seminar on Literature "Menéndez Pelayo"
Throughout its long and distinguished history, the Literature Seminar has honored the figure and work of the great writer after whom it is named, striving to explore the literary phenomenon in its many dimensions: bibliographic, linguistic, historical, theoretical, critical, comparative, and more.
Although literature in the Spanish language is at the core of its activities, it also takes into account Hispanic literatures in other languages: Hispano-Latin, Hispano-Arabic, Hispano-Hebrew and Sephardic, as well as Catalan, Galician, and Basque, among others.
Currently, the Literature Seminar, in addition to organizing meetings, symposia, and lecture series, promotes three series: El Arte de la Crítica, Investigaciones teatrales and Biblioteca Pedro Sainz Rodríguez de Literatura y Espiritualidad.
It also publishes the journal Cuadernos para la Investigación de la Literatura Hispánica, which, in its second phase, is committed to meeting the standards of excellence currently required in academic and university field.
And finally, in keeping with the spirit that inspired the founders of the Fundación Universitaria Española, the Seminar on Literature “Menéndez Pelayo” seeks to serve as a bridge between the university and society, while also upholding and promoting the great values of Christian humanism, the foundation of our Western civilization.
Series
El Arte de la Crítica
Since 2019, the El Arte de la Crítica series of the Fundación Universitaria Española has been publishing the results of various research projects dedicated to Spanish literature. From its inception, the collection has embraced a dual focus: on the one hand, in-depth scientific analyses (individual or collaborative) of Spanish literature, and on the other, critical and scholarly editions of literary works or documents of particular value for its study. With the aim of promoting our literary heritage through objective reflection, the El Arte de la Crítica Collection strives to offer diverse publications united by a strong commitment to the consolidation and dissemination of rigorous studies grounded in the systematic application of literary criticism.

Biblioteca “Sainz Rodríguez” de Literatura y Espiritualidad
La Biblioteca “Pedro Sainz Rodríguez” de Literatura y Espiritualidad (BPSR) was created with the aim of revitalizing the former “Espirituales Españoles” series, , one of the most prolific and high-quality collections published by the Fundación Universitaria Española. Its titles—many of them now out of print—span the classics of spirituality from the Middle Ages to modern times. In addition to reissuing some of these works, the collection’s main objective is to publish new studies and editions of texts whose themes fall within the broad framework of literature and spirituality. The Editorial Board is composed of leading specialists in this field of study, representing various disciplines —literature, history, sociology, and theology— and affiliated with prestigious national and international universities.
